SOS center provides crisis intervention services (i.e., psychological support) and basic social counseling. All our services are free of charge for all clients.
Crisis Intervention
The goal of crisis intervention is to:
- Support the client’s safety when dealing with a crisis situation – to stop, delay, or reduce self-destructive or aggressive tendencies.
- Improve or stabilize the client’s psychological and emotional state — to allow the client to express and accept emotions and to relieve inner tension.
- Help the client gain self-understanding — to comprehend their own experiences and needs.
- Support the client’s ability to cope with the crisis – to strengthen trust in the client’s capacity to make decisions, mobilize personal and inner resources, and, if needed, support the client in leaning on external sources of support.
- Help the client navigate the situation and provide necessary information – to offer possible alternatives for solutions and a plan for the near future.
The maximum duration of the support provided is 12 sessions.
Social Counseling
As part of crisis intervention, clients are also provided with basic social counseling.
This may include:
- Providing information about suitable social and healthcare services and other commonly accessible sources of support.
- Providing information about the basic rights and responsibilities of individuals, especially in connection with the provision of social services.
- Providing information about other forms of assistance, such as state social security, housing, employment, and more.
- Support with everyday matters – assistance when communicating with authorities, rarely doctors, etc.; in exceptional cases, a staff member may accompany the client.
- Support in restoring or strengthening family relationships, and assistance with other activities that promote social inclusion.
Clients may be referred to other service providers if agreed upon. During interventions, we also help clients develop the skills and abilities needed to communicate and negotiate with authorities and other institutions.
